My name is Orlando Rodriguez. I am a software engineer and scientist working in Tucson, Arizona.
What draws me to the work is the problem before the solution. I like coming across a codebase that is trying to solve something real in an inefficient way and working out something better. A novel problem with room to run is even better.
Background§
I ended up in software the way most people my age did: I wanted to make video games, and I started pulling at the thread. The curiosity about how computers worked turned out to be more durable than the video game ambition. My first independent project was an attempt at a personal website. It was not good. That was eight years ago, and here we are.
Currently§
Outside of work I am building this site, making slow progress through Russian and Japanese, and reading Getting Things Done by David Allen — which, if you are the kind of person who keeps a list of books about productivity, you have probably been meaning to read for longer than you would like to admit.
Hobbies§
Languages (日本語, Русский, 汉语), journaling, personal productivity systems, indoor top-rope climbing, and TaeKwonDo. The list changes. These have stayed.
